How Skip Permits Work in Camden 

In Camden, only the skip hire company can apply for the skip licence.
Residents, builders, or customers cannot apply directly.

However, the person booking the skip is responsible for:

• Choosing a skip operator who is properly licensed and registered
• Ensuring the skip licence and any parking suspension are approved before the skip is delivered

Camden normally issues skip licences for:

• Up to 14 days (2 weeks) as standard
• Longer placements require renewal and additional charges

B. Parking Suspension Fees (if the skip occupies a parking bay)

• Admin fee per application: £88.08
• Daily suspension charge: from £57.95–£110.10 per day, depending on the number of days suspended
• Most skip companies add these costs to your final hire price.

Camden will usually approve the placement if:

• The skip is on the road directly outside the property
• It does not obstruct:
  • Driveways
  • Junctions
  • Pedestrian crossings
  • Bus stops
  • Cycle lanes
  • Emergency access

Skips cannot be placed:

• On pavements or footways
• On suspended bays without an approved suspension
• In restricted or dangerous locations
• Where it would block traffic flow or visibility

Camden also restricts skips larger than 8 cubic yards — only allowed in exceptional circumstances.

Camden requires all skips placed on the road to have:

• High-visibility reflective markings
• Cones placed at each end
• Night-time safety lights (sunset to sunrise)
• The skip company’s name and contact details clearly displayed
• Properly maintained condition, not overflowing, no loose material

The operator is responsible for compliance, but the customer must ensure the company follows these rules.

If a skip is placed without a Camden licence or valid bay suspension, the council can:

• Issue fines
• Remove the skip and charge recovery fees
• Charge both the skip operator and/or the property owner
• Suspend the skip company from operating in Camden
