You do not need a permit to place a skip on private property as long as you have the landowners permission. If the skip needs to be placed on a road, such as on a public highway, a skip permit must be applied for. Proskips can organise a skip permit for you in most boroughs, but please be aware that we can only work as fast as the council who will be issuing it. All councils share the lead time to secure the permit and our team will inform you of the specifics for your request. The cost of the skip permit will vary depending on the size of the skip and your location

Our standard hire terms include provision of the skip for up to 2 weeks, or to coincide with your skip permit conditions. We also offer a Wait and Load service where our drivers will arrive with your skip to be filled as they wait. A standard Wait and Load booking includes 30 minutes; once it’s loaded we take it away. Please note that our Wait and Load service DOES NOT require a permit.

You can fill the skip up to the markings on the side so that it reaches a level load. We will not collect overloaded skips, as it is our responsibility to ensure that ALL skips are safe for transportation on public highways en route to the recycling depot.

If you do not specify a date of collection when ordering your skip, just contact us when you are ready and we will do our best to ensure a quick collection. Where possible, please try and give us 48 hours notice.

You can pay for the skip hire using a credit/debit card via PayPal over the telephone when you place your order with us. Please note that we do not accept American Express. For commercial customers, we provide credit facilities on 30 day payment terms, subject the necessary approvals and credit check.

Proskips provide various sizes of skip hire lorries, ranging from 7.5 tonne mini skip lorries, up to 26 tonne heavy use vehicles. The standard dimensions that we will require to gain access to a property are: Width: 3 Metres (9.8 feet) Length: 7 Metres (22.9 feet) Height: 3.4 Metres (11.15 feet). Please make sure there is sufficient access to your property and notify us ASAP if you think our driver may have any problems. Information in advance removes onsite problems.

Please ensure you watch our short video titled “What Can and Can’t Go Into a Skip”. Common sense is crucial. If your waste is hazardous, please do not put it in any container without first speaking to our team. There are many items that people will be unaware are hazardous, such as fridges, freezers and mattresses; to name a few. Watch our video to find our more. If you want to dispose of any of these items please contact us so that we can make special arrangements for them to be collected.

If a skip is placed on the roadside, lights and a cover are required to ensure the safety of other road users during hours of darkness. Please read and review the skip permit conditions as published on your local council’s website. You can always ask our team for more advice on 0208 879 9892.

If you have any problems regarding a skip hire permit, we offer a Wait and Load service that does not require a permit. For more information call us on 0208 879 9892.

Top Frensham Waste Disposal Facts

  • tik-iconHow much does a skip cost? The answer is based on three factors. (a) The amount of rubbish you have to dispose of and therefore the size of the skip you will require (b) The type of rubbish you have and that needs to be disposed of (c) Your geographic location the skip will be required.

  • tik-iconDo I need a Skip Licence from the council? This depends on where you are placing the skip. If it is on a public road, or highway, the answer is yes. If it is on private property the answer is no. If you need more information please phone the office and speak to any of our team, we’re always here to help.

  • tik-iconHow much do Skip Permits Cost? The cost of a Skip Licence or Permit will vary depending on your geographic location within the UK, as well as the council and borough granting the permit. Each council controls its own licensing fees and Proskips unfortunately have no way of influencing or reducing these fees but regularly challenge councils across the UK on our customers behalf..

  • tik-iconWho applies for and issues Skip Licenses and Permits? Local councils provide Skip Licenses and Permits. In most instances, Proskips will be allowed to apply for the Skip Permit on behalf of our customers. However in some areas, councils require the individual or business hiring the skip to apply for their permit or licence directly. We would recommend you visit your local councils' website to understand what their process and specific requirements are.

  • tik-iconHow long do Skip Permits last? Depending on the local council who will be providing your Skip Permit or Licence, permits are generally granted for 14 or 28 days. Most councils are however more than happy to allow for this initial period to be extended (for an additional fee), so we would recommend that you contact them in advance if you need more time. Please note that the onus is on yourself, as if you keep a skip for longer than the timeframe allowed by your permit, you may be liable for a fine.

  • tik-iconWhat happens if my skip is on the road without a permit? You will be breaking the law. We will not place a skip on a road without a valid permit under any circumstances in any borough throughout the UK. Do not forget that you will not need a permit if you are putting your skip entirely on private property – on your driveway.
