Skip Hire the best option for your garden waste

You may be working on a home or commercial landscaping project, or have recently bought a new house? Whatever your situation and whether it is your garden that needs a general tidy-up, or it is a complete make-over that is required, chances are you will have sizeable amount of green and garden type waste that you will need to dispose of.

As with any waste, it is imperative that you choose a responsible way to dispose of your garden waste and one of the most convenient, as well as most cost-effective options is booking a garden waste skip hire.

What Can I Put in a Garden Waste Skip?

Garden Waste Skip Hire

Whilst considering if booking a skip hire is your best option, it is fair that you may find yourself wondering what type of garden waste is permitted to be disposed of in a garden waste skip, or skip bag.

You will be pleased to know that most of what you would expect can go into a garden waste skip is permitted and this includes the following:

  • Grass and pruning, old plants, weeds, leaves, shrubs, branch clippings/twigs
  • Turf and lawn, soil, wood chip, bark and slag

In addition to the obvious items above that are considered garden waste and can be put into a skip, the following items which are often part of a major garden clearance and tidy-up, can also safely be disposed of in a Proskips garden waste skip:

  • Patio materials & concrete slabs, bricks, rubble & hardcore

Why Skip Hire is the Best Option for your Garden Waste

When considering your options for disposing of your garden waste, it is not uncommon that skip hire may not be your first choice. Many think that a man and van service is a cheaper option, however this is not necessarily the case and you could find yourself paying considerably more when you factor in the separate costs – for the man and van labour and then a another charge/s for the quantity of garden waste and relevant fees to be paid at the waste depot/recycling centre.

More Cost-Effective

There are also some who are of the opinion that disposing of their garden waste via their Council’s green bin collection service will save them money. Again, considering that “time” is one of our most valuable commodities, once you factor in how long it will take for you to dispose of all your waste, you could save yourself a lot of time and headache by booking a skip.

If you are using your Council’s green bin, there is a long list of “do’s” and “do nots”, that if missed, or not followed to a tea, may result in your green bin not being collected.  You need to ensure that all of the following are met:

  • All your shrubs, branches, leaves etc are cut small enough and put in bags and so they fit in your bin
  • You need to wait for the right collection day
  • Your bin cannot be overloaded as the lid needs to close
  • Council green bins are getting smaller, so depending on how much garden waste you have to dispose of, it could take you a number of weeks and weekly, (or fortnightly) collections to dispose of all your waste
  • Council green bins can only accept some green waste, so any larger waste items such as patio materials, concrete slabs, bricks, rubble and hardcore materials, garden furniture, fencing and plant pots will not be able to fit
  • Your bin needs to be positioned in a suitable place for collection on the footpath and must not be blocking the pedestrian walkway, or vehicle access
  • If the bin handles are facing the wrong way, there is a chance your bin will not be collected

For most folk, the option of using a council bin is far too fiddly and time consuming.

Weighing up all of the pros and cons, all of the above can be avoided by choosing to book a Proskips Garden Waste Skip hire. It is in fact considerably more convenient, cost effective and taking everything into account, also leaves less of a carbon footprint.
