Banstead has a long history, there has been a recognised settlement here since 967 AD
Henry VIII made Banstead part of Catherine of Aragon's dowry. However, he took it away again and gave it to Sir Nicholas Carew. Carew was later beheaded for treason, but the manor stayed in his family until the 18th century.
In the 17th century Banstead gained a reputation as a ‘health resort’. London doctors would send their patients to Banstead to benefit from its wholesome air.
