What you cannot put in a skip

As we have detailed above, Proskips can accept many types of waste to be disposed of in one of our skips, skip bins, containers, or cage lorries. However, there are certain items that cannot be put into a skip.

Hazardous Waste

Hazardous Waste

As with all types of waste, it is imperative that Hazardous Waste types are disposed of correctly. As a proud member of the Halving Waste to Landfill scheme, we worked tirelessly with our customers to ensure they are given the correct advice and guidelines on how best to dispose of their waste correctly.

The UK government also imposes large fines and it is in fact illegal to dispose of hazardous types of waste improperly.

If ever in doubt if you can put something in a skip, the rule of common sense can generally be applied. We would recommend that in such situations you yourself if the specific waste in question would be harmful to you or your family; is it poisonous or explosive?

The types of hazardous waste that cannot be put in a skip, skip bag, or container are waste types such as:

  • Old batteries
  • Asbestos
  • TV’s, monitors, printers, computers, laptops and electrical equipment
  • Old mobile phones, tablets, MP3 players etc
  • Mattresses
  • Plasterboard
  • Refridgerators
  • Paints, thinners and solvents
  • Fluorescent tubes and lighting

In many instances, you will find hazardous waste items marked with orange and black danger symbols, or a red and white hazard pictograms to indicate they’re hazardous.

Please note that it is illegal to mix hazardous waste with either non-hazardous or another hazardous waste.

If you are ever in any doubt if your waste is hazardous or not and whether you can put it into one of our skips, skip bags, or containers, please phone the office on 0208 879 9892.

The Proskips team are always here to help and if we can’t collect and dispose of it ourselves, we will be able to direct you to, or give you information on how best to do this.
